Hindu group demands Qutub Minar to be renamed

Members of radical Hindu outfits staged a protest near Qutb Minar in Delhi on Tuesday demanding the historical monument be renamed ‘Vishnu Stambh’. The groups also recited Hanuman Chalisa on the premises, amid heavy police deployment. Members of Mahakal Manav Sewa and other Hindu outfits were seen holding placards and raising slogans at the Qutb Minar, which is recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Meanwhile, adding fuel to the continuous anti-Muslim tirade, the Delhi BJP has sought the names of other landmarks in the national capital, like Akbar Road, Humayun Road, Aurangzeb Lane and Tughlak Lane, be changed as they are named after Muslim rulers. In a letter to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation chairman, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta has suggested that the streets be renamed after Maharana Pratap, Guru Govind Singh, Maharshi Valmiki and General Vipin Rawat.
