Police Crackdown on Lucknow Women Protesters

The UP Police on January 25, 2020, cracked down on the on-going demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Act led by women at the Lucknow Clock Tower (Ghanta-Ghar). The Police have made a case against 10 women. FIRs are also registered against 100 unidentified women. Further, the Police have also arrested 7 male volunteers and a student leader Pooja Shukla. Reportedly, the Police arrived at the scene suddenly and arrested demonstrators. The Police is also alleged to have physically assaulted senior citizens and verbally abused the protesting women. This was along with the threats made by the Police personnel. Further, it is also alleged that the Police cut off the electricity supply for the street lights of the area and that the toilets in the area were locked.
