Muslim professor not allowed to teach Sanskrit

Students of Banaras Hindu University started a protest against the appointment of a non-Hindu as an assistant professor in Sanskrit in the Sahitya faculty’s Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vijnan. According to the protesting students, a non- hindu can't be appointed in their 'Gurukul. Students have said that Khan's appointment is a "conspiracy" and goes agaisnt the 'Sentiments' of Madhan Mohan Malviya, the founder of BHU. The university however insisted the students to call of the strike assuring that the appointment was a unanimous decision on the basis of prescribed guidelines of the UGC and the Government of India. They have also decided to seek legal opinion.
