A mob comprising "hundreds of men", according to some eyewitnesses, attacked a Bulandshahr village after a cow's carcass was found floating in a pond Friday morning. The men, said villagers of Adauli, around 10 km from Bulandshahr city, "attacked every soul they spotted and vandalised scores of houses". They also ransacked two places of worship that belong to a particular community. A villager, who requested that he not be named, said, "Many houses were looted, and two of our religious structures vandaliszed. After the attack, many frightened families have locked their houses and left for safer places fearing further attacks. "Like everyday, I was going about my daily routine when suddenly a large crowd began running in my direction, some of whom started thrashing me and even threw away the vegetables on my cart into the drain," said Aabad Ali, a vegetable vendor. "There were many who were beaten up". Aleem Ahmad, whose daughter is to get married a day after Eid, said, "After vandalising our place of worship, the mob forcefully entered my house and took away things we had kept for the wedding. We lost some jewellery. A few boys helping out out with arrangement for the occasion were also thrashed."
