On 20 September 2020, a group of 10 Madrasa teachers from Malda were going to Salt Lake to attend meeting at State Education department. On 21 Sep 2020 they reached Salt Lake at 6 in the morning. Their accommodation had been done by the Secretary in the guesthouse. They were picked up by the employee of the guesthouse. While checking-in the members clearly said to the employee that they will live till 3 pm. After freshening up the teachers except one (as he was sleeping) left for breakfast in the nearby market. When they returned at 9:30 they were asked to leave the hotel as there was another online booking from 10 am, also they were promised for better rooms so despite protest they agreed. After waiting for 45 mins they were told that the hotel rooms were being renovated, so they couldn't get rooms there. The teachers called the man, Islam who booked the room. Islam told The Telegraph that he was told by the owner of the guesthouse that as all the 10 belonged to the same community they couldn't get room and expressed regret. Later, the director of the Madrasa Education, Abid Hussain, was informed regarding the incident and the and consequently complaint was made. A senior officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate said that the investigation was going on.
