Loudspeakers of Mathura Mosque damaged by goons

On Monday 3rd of May 2021, a group of anti-social elements entered a mosque in Mathura's Bada Bazar area. Imam of the mosque, Mohammad Riyaz, who was present in the mosque at the time of the incident, said that the group entered the mosque chanting "Jai Sri Ram". when he confronted them, they said they had orders from the top that there will be no azan allowed from here. Police said that the youth while going upstairs to remove the loudspeaker also had threatened the Imam and damaged some other mosque equipment. Police further added that these were the same group that had allegedly recited "Hanuman Chalisa" in Gorvardhan's Eidgah in November last year. SP Shirish Chandra said that FIR has been lodged on the basis of a complaint lodged by the imam of the mosque, Mohammad Riyaz, against eight people under IPC sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and for violating lockdown orders).
