BJP legislator's Hate Speech in Jammu and Kashmir

On the 1st of November 2021, PDP leader Ashraf Wani shared a video from his Twitter handle in which recently appointed state secretary of BJP Vikram Randhawa was seen in a video exhorting his supporters to beat up Kashmiri Muslims and "Skin them alive", reported The Wire. Randhawa was making these remarks during a public meeting in Jammu after there were some reported incidents of celebrations, of Pakistan victory in T20 cricket match, in Kashmir. J&K police had registered an FIR (number 357/2021) against Randhawa under sections 295(A) and 505(2) of IPC for "hurting religious sentiments" and "promoting enmity between religious groups." The politician was booked following a complaint filed by a Kashmiri lawyer on Monday for “insulting Islam” and “promoting disharmonious feelings” against the Muslim community. Randhawa, however, has not been arrested yet. A statement released by the BJP on Tuesday said Randhawa has been “relieved” of all positions in the party. The BJP had earlier issued a show-cause notice against him and sought his apology, reported in Al Jazeera.
