Activist falsely implicated in cow slaughter case

On 25th August 2020, Mr Zakir Ali Tyagi was beaten up and arrested from his residence in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on the suspicion of cow slaughter. He kept on denying all these allegations but all such requests fell on deaf ears of the police. Later on it was found that he was arrested on the basis of Munneshwar's complaint of cow slaughter but such arrest was also motivated due to the local BJP leader's pressure over the police. As to Mr Tyagi such arrest could have been in the lieu of him being involved in the anti-CAA protests in the Shaheen Bagh. After the arrest the police made him sign a confession stating that he was involved in the cow slaughter. Currently, he is on bail and such was authorized on 7th September 2020. Since his release, Tyagi has emphatically denied the cow slaughter charge against him. “I have been targeted for my activism and my political views on social media,” said Tyagi, who is strongly critical of right-wing politics in his Facebook and Twitter posts.
